03/04/2015 (Good Friday) Crew: Mum, Dad, Andrew
Tired today after returning from work in Germany. Due to heavy traffic we arrived late at the boat in two cars. A lot of new tests today. New mudweight to be attached and new lifejacket. Removed all the covers from inside the boat. When Mum and Dad arrived we had lunch on board. Then filled up the origo stove with origo alcohol and tried running it for the first time. Tip: use a lighter or long matches! Boiled the kettled. It takes about 15 minutes for a litre on full power.
Then we moved the boats to clear a pathway from the slip to the river. Hunky Dory is a little difficult to control as we are not used to her. Now under Wayford bridge. 7' clearance today so inches to spare. We then cruised up 25 minutes to Dilham.
After having a home made hot cross bun and tea at Dilham, we turned the boat by hand. Then pottered back to Wayford. Saw a kingfisher sitting on over hanging tree. Gradually learnt how to handle the boat. We went past the boatyard looking for a mooring. Then a full power turn to really test the steering as this is new with the engine!
We moored on the public staithe 24 hour mooring which quickly filled up. Larger boats came and sized up wether they could get under the bridge, but not hope! After clearing up we went to the Holiday Inn for the night.
